There are a lot of junky settings in the advanced dialog box, such as "color," etc. One of the problems is this darn Lexmark, temporary, printer while the HP B&W laser is out of commission. Usually, though, I load the document prior to printing just to make sure I'm not printing the wrong document. Anyway, I made a point of saving the unchecked "document on disk " I so seldom print a document on disk that, for me, it is better to have the thing always unchecked by default if I can and only check it on the rare occaision that I do in fact print directly from disk. The only thing I can guess is that, while previously exploring the new WPWINX4 interface dialog boxes with NO document on the screen, I must have "saved" a new default when I was on the "advanced" screen. Of course, if WPWIN14 doesn't pick "document on disk" as a default, then mebbe "I" accidentally checked it, in which event, we should amend "CULPRIT" above to read "BONEHEADED USER."

I'm coming at this from having used WPWIN7 since it first came out and as patched through the end ("almost" worked perfectly on XP on a 32bit FAT install - but no spell checker) and now is still alive and running perfectly in a virtual PC on the machine, "just in case." WPWIN7 does have a "document on disk" setting, but I don't recall its ever being "checked" unless I affirmatively checked it. As I was scrolling through the responses, I noticed that njmellot's post appeared to be close, so I played that card first, and the button came to life again so, I didn't have to wait until "the evening," after work, to address the problem after all. Time Needed to resolve problem: 5 minutes.ĬOMMENT: Now I KNOW why I try to remain on the trailing edge of technology: With computers, usually, when you get something "new," although you may not get something "old" or something "borrowed,".you can sometimes get something "blue " and the "blue" is "YOU!" :-) :-) SOLUTION: From issues 22, 26 & 31 of WPUNews: PROBLEM: Print button greyed out can't print.ĬULPRIT: "Document on disk" was checked, apparently by default. In his sticky, Silent said, "ask us," so that's what I'm doing. I've never seen this before in any version of WP.ĭo I need to undertake a REPAIR installation? Anyone seen this before? Where do I start on this? I am completely baffled this simply makes no sense.

The document is editable in WP, and WP converted the file into a PDF file (which I printed out in Adobe Acrobat since WP wouldn't do it as a ".wpd" file). I've been printing on WPWIN since 1991 the print steps are the same as they always were the document is in plain, vanilla, Times New Roman. All other apps on the system print (Notepad, Wordpad, Adobe Acrobat, etc.) the printer is showing up in WP's PRINT dialog box as "ready " the print que is clear but WPX4's print button is simply greyed out. PROBLEM: PRINT button is grayed out can't print.
